Learning about the craftsmanship and artistic qualities in preparing a certain fishy cuisine, Jiro Dreams of Sushi is very insightful, showing us the process in fish selection all the way to how the rice is served.

This may not seem to be the most exciting thing to gaze at, but we learn through director David Gelb's beautiful cinematography and inspired musical selection that all of this redundant work serves a greater narrative.

The pursuit of perfection in any field of work does not take place over a casual amount of time; rather it is something that needs to be refined day in and day out. This process can lead to a lifetime of diligent work, thus the main story of Jiro Dreams of Sushi tells.

On the surface, it is a fascinating deep dive into the life of a hardworking and naturally talented sushi master who happens to be one of the best at his craft. But the more we learn about the master chef and his family; the pursuit of perfection doesn't take place in one lifetime, but is generational.
