Review of Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011) by Damjan R — 25 Jan 2015
Doubly enjoyable because of the theme, but ultimately, as is often the case, this film isn't (only) about sushi. This is a story of culture of excellence and determination, of tradition and order and anyone interested in those motifs will find 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' utterly engrossing.
The camera work almost mimics the smooth and precise movements of the master and the classical soundtrack beautifully accents the visuals. The story does tend to repeat some of the points over and over, but it's only a minor nuisance, as there are, believe it or not, even some twists packed into this subtle but powerful film.
Recommended for all of us perfectionists out there, we'll never even come close.
