Review of Jimmy's Hall (2014) by Clive T — 04 Jun 2014
Getting passed Ken Loach's less than impartial history lesson, the film is beautifully shot but rather confused and confusing. There was no real sense of just how powerful the Church was at that time, it seemed more to be two men feuding with each other.
The scene of finding young people dancing at the roadside was exactly what Dev. had said he wanted Ireland to get back to, but somehow we had the impression this was anti-establishment. By the end of the film I couldn't tell if Gralton or O'Keefe were IRA (or both).
