Review of JFK (1991) by Randall T — 01 Apr 2009
Oliver Stone has hurt the American people. He has created a fabrication. In Stone's world, Kevin Costner, John Candy and Kevin Bacon are actors of the highest caliber, capable of rich, nuanced performances. I think you have to consider all of the lives hurt from people seeing this incredible film and continuing to give Kevin Costner work outside of his niche of apple pie baseball films. We can place the blame for the Waterworld fiasco squarely at his feet.
Do not think that I'm excusing John Williams' excellent score, or the great directorial and cinematographical work at hand here. That such an incredible cast of film-makers was gathered together to create their career-work out of the half-baked testimony of Jim Garrison and other conspiracy theorists surely must be some kind of cosmic joke. This is one of the best performances of Tommy-Lee Jones' career, and of Donald Sutherland, Gary Oldman and Joe Pesci.
As a movie, it is dazzlingly good.
