Review of JFK (1991) by Kyo 9 — 01 Jul 2010

At a whopping 3 hours and 25 minutes, this amazing Oliver Stone film that is hard to take your eyes away from, flies by. The assassination of President Kennedy and the attack of the magic bullet theory has been in discussion more now than when this film was released. Don't be fooled, this is not a biopic. This is NOT a film about JFK, which led many viewers astray. Instead, the intense drama focuses on the government's role and Jim Garrison's (Mr. Costner) crusade in giving up everything to open the eyes of America to the conspiracy that shocked.

What, in this film, is fact and what is fiction? To be honest, there probably is more embellishment than fact, as the Kennedy controversy still remains in the air today. The grueling footage of the Zapruder film analyzed and documented in the final courtroom scene is chilling. Tommy Lee Jones gives a wonderful performance, along with Mr. Pesci and an overlooked Ms. Spacek. The film, of course, belongs to Mr. Costner and a brief and devastatingly important moment with Donald Sutherland.

Controversy will make you watch the film. Brilliant filmmaking, truthful acting, cohesive storytelling and startling images will keep you inside Mr. Garrison's journey from start to finish.
