Review of JFK (1991) by Rob H — 11 Aug 2010
JFK not only delivers a history lesson on the assassination of John F Kennedy on 11-23-1963, but it creates a mystery surrounding the execution of the plan. He doesn't refute the Warren Report, but Stone does create doubt in some of its conclusions.
In fact, his movie suggests five possible conspiracy theories; 1) Communists 2) Texas Oilmen and Defense Contractors 3) The CIA and anti-Castro forces 4) Mafia and 5) A military / industrial complex. New Orleans DA Jim Garrison had his own opinion, and you may agree with him after listing to the persuasive dialogue of Mr X - who in real life was Colonel Fletcher Prouty of the Special Ops Force.
Since nobody credible has stepped forward to admit their complicity in such a conspiracy in nearly fifty years, it is difficult to agree with the conclusion of Garrison. After all, we now know Mark Felt was Deep Throat, the informant of the Watergate crimes.
Anyhow, the conclusion of this movie is far less important to me than how they got there, and this movie had an excellent supporting cast, including John Candy, Kevin Bacon, Donald Sutherland in surprising roles.
