Review of JFK (1991) by Aaron M — 21 Nov 2012
The new DVD sets come packed with loads of goodies in similar fashion with other recent Warner special editions such as "The Dirty Harry Collection" and "Casablanca". Truthfully it may be a bit much for the casual viewer, the only added bonus being the feature length documentary "The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings".
Big as the package is though, it's solidly put together and looks great. As for the film itself, a lot of it will come down to whether or not you enjoy Oliver Stone's films and where your stand on the Jim Garrison conspiracy theory.
Thankfully it doesn't try and shove it down our throats, but rather gives us enough information so that we can leave asking more questions than when we started. For most subjects this would be frustrating, but not so in this case.
It's as complex a case as any, and should be taken on with renewed interest rather than anger and outrage over the possibility of government involvement, as previous generations have done. The film is far from perfect and does wane during family scenes, but the fact that Stone and Co.
present all of the subject matter and ask all the questions in over 3 hours without losing our attention is an impressive achievement.
