Review of JFK (1991) by Max O — 26 Apr 2014
It might be mostly untrue (JFK was pretty much certainly killed by Oswald and only Oswald), but it's all brilliant, and it's more than worth a look. And hey, if it gets you to start digging into the Kennedy assassination conspiracy yourself like it did for me, then all the more power to it.
I've ragged on Kevin Costner all my life, and not without reason, but my condemnation of him in this movie was uncalled for. Much as I dislike Costner normally, he's excellent in this, and deserved a Best Actor nomination.
The rest of the cast is excellent, with career bests from Costner, Kevin Bacon, and Tommy Lee Jones, and brilliant performances from Donald Sutherland, Joe Pesci, Gary Oldman, Jack Lemmon, SIssy Spacek, and even John Candy.
Oliver Stone made his most ambitious and his best movie with this. Much as I like the Silence of the Lambs, I think JFK should have trounced it at the Oscars. This is truly a fantastic movie, and it moves quickly despite it's length.
