Review of JFK (1991) by Gimly M — 23 Feb 2015
The movie JFK, directed by Oliver Stone, is an interesting movie. I did enjoy the film for the most part. Kevin Costner did a wonderful job portraying Jim Garrison, it was very apparent to me that he cared about the part he was playing. Other actors in the film were all the same way, very professional about their parts and they did a great job being realistic. While the entire movie is about a theory that has never been proven true, it does a great job explaining why Stone thought that there was a conspiracy to kill John Kennedy. It can also be very persuasive. If you think that the movie is fact, it can make you hate the government because you think they killed Kennedy.
While I am a fan of the movie, I think the movie could be much better if it were shorter. Some things are impossible to make shorter, and I understand that, but three and a half hours felt like an eternity while watching it. Some parts of were interesting and kept you entertained, while others confused you and made you wonder how it had anything to do with the plot of the film at all. If this film were greatly reduced in length, down to two hours or somewhere thereabout, I would have enjoyed the movie much more. It is also quite obvious throughout the length of the film it is an old movie, it is low resolution and there are even spots in black and white. I wouldn't mind if this were updated and made HD. I am a fan of the conspiracy topic, but the movie was not the best way to show what might have happened in Kennedy's final days. That is why I gave it a 4/5. If the film were a little more concise, it would likely be much closer to a 5/5.
