Review of Jet Pilot (1957) by Zoran S — 18 May 2011
This is a ludicrous, silly, and beautifully stylized piece of camp. Or is it high-minded formalism? It's hard to tell the difference when, for example, Janet Leigh undresses and the soundtrack is overtaken by loud, noisy fighter jets.
It's practically a Godardian moment. Or how about when Leigh's romantic interest in Wayne is distracted by a large sizzling steak which Von Sternberg expertly fetishizes? Perhaps the worst film about the Cold War--and therefore the most appropriate.
