Review of Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001) by Jennifer S — 19 Aug 2005
I just finished watching Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. Yes, it was another "B movie". Jesus returns to Earth to fight vampires who are preying on lesbians. He teams up with a professional wrestler and Jesus (in his robe and tennis shoes) knows some awesome karate moves...and oh yeah...it was also a musical! My favorite part was when Jesus was saved after a fight with the vampires by a cross-dresser. There are also "special guest appearences" by Jesus' father (who speaks to Jesus in a bowl of ice cream) and his mother (a Mary statue which speaks).
Anyway, the movie reminded me of something a 16 year old boy would make if he had access to a video camera and it looked like it was shot on a budget of about $15 (and that's being generous). The quality of the movie was HORRIBLE (for example, whenever people spoke, the sound didn't quite match up with the lip movement). However, the fact that the movie and it's premise and everything about it was so absurd was something I really enjoyed. There were a few parts which were tedious (some of the fight scenes went on a bit too long), but I give it 8 out of 10 stars because there were some parts that really made me laugh out loud (and we rent a lot of movies that fail to make me laugh, much less out loud).
