Review of Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) by Chris M — 22 Nov 2008
The first time I watched this, I didn't appreciate it for all it's worth. I was more used to the (far inferior) 2000 staged film of the show, and was reluctant to accept this version. Now I can appreciate it for all it has to offer, and it's definitely superior to the 2000 version.
There are a few things, the most important being the better Jesus and Judas (specifically Judas). You also have to take into account the incredible landscapes of Israel used in this movie. This is one of the most beautifully photographed movies I've ever seen.
The music is great, the singing is great, the photography is beautiful. If you like rock operas or musicals, check this out.
