I will concede that Jesus Christ Superstar may have been more enjoyable to watch when it was first released. However, 40 years after the fact, it just does not stand the test of time.

Part of the appeal likely was how controversial it would have been to mix religion and pop culture. Well, that is no longer the case as this is done all the time today. So when you strip that away, I don't find the film has much going for it.

If I were being honest, I would say that I was bored stiff. If I were being nice, I'd say that it just didn't work for me. The music was completely lacking, which shocked me. I was expecting catchy tunes that would stay with me and that I enjoyed watching performed. This was not the case. All the songs sounded the same and were uninteresting. I also didn't think that having no dialogue worked. And this is coming from a musical fan.

So, in the end, I was completely let down. I waited for years to watch this film and thought that it would be right up my alley. Instead, I couldn't wait for it to end so that I could move on to something else.
