Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Jonathan B — 14 Jan 2009
Interesting movie that does not go quite as deep as I had hoped. It gives you a good snap shot of some of the more fervent (or crazy, depending on your point of view) Evangelical childrenâ??s outreach programs and the kids who attend them.
I do not think there is much in here that would upset people on the right, other than the random left wing radio host who starts off and ends the movie with no explanation of who he is. The bulk of the film consists mostly of interviews with a childrenâ??s minister and parts of her sermon, interviews with some of the kids, some shots of their home life, and a few minutes with some of the parents.
I would have liked to have seen more investigation into causes for this type of religious behaviors spread, and maybe a look at some of the more controversial actions of its followers, but this was still an enlightening film.
As someone who lives in one of the more Liberal areas of the country, I am usually surprised at how out of touch with conservative America most people around me are, and this film should help to open their eyes some.
