Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Melissa D — 26 Feb 2009
I heard one reviewer say that this pokes fun at Christianity. Being a committed Christian I have to say I don't think it does. To me it seems to present what life is like for some kids that go to pentecostal churches.
While not up there with other doc's like Bowling For Columbine or This Film Is Not Yet Rated, it is a quality film. Having seen this I've gotta say that this doesn't represent all Christians.
The film gives hints that this is the case but doesn't make it blatantly obvious. Not all Christians believe the same thing. I found myself strongly agreeing with some of the things said and strongly disagreeing with some of the other things.
But this film isn't about theology, it's about kids. How do we bring kids up? How should parents share there beliefs without forcing it down their throats? God has given us the freedom to choose and no one should be forced to believe something they don't want to.
Having said all that there's no evidence that the kids in this film are forced to do what they do. But we don't see what goes on behind closed doors in the kids family home. Having watched this I expect some of the kids may turn there back on God later on in life since as a kid you don't really know a lot about life.
