Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Eva J — 29 May 2009
Harry Potter must be killed! Warlocks are evil!
From a documentary perspective this is a better film than Religulous mainly because it doesn't overtly make in fun of the subject material - I mean, it doesn't have to. The people in this film do it to themselves.
The main lesson I took away from this movie is that kids are incredibly impressionable and very easy to mold. No matter what these evangelicals think they are doing, they are committing a crime - they are brainwashing these children and discouraging them from learning all viewpoints on certain issues before taking a stance. If I am ever a father, I will certainly teach my kids to think for themselves and make informed decisions.
I believe that all the people in this film down deep have the intellectual ability to break free from the Jesus obsessed cult to which they belong, but as they live there lives now - they scare the living shit out of me. They can and will be a dangerous faction of American society that I believe with all my soul have the potential to be extremely violent extremists and not just against foreign Islamic cultures but against American citizens that challenge their beliefs.
