Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Marion R — 31 May 2009
I watched this movie last night. It pretty much encapsulates the reasons why I have stopped calling myself religious and started calling myself spiritual.
The kids are creepy, the youth pastor featured in the show adept at twisting their brains. Her goal is to make Christian terrorists and often compares her methods to those used by Muslims training people to be suicide bombers.
This movie is especially chilling to me since I watched it the day I found out about the tragic death of Dr.George Tiller. The kids in this are being trained to carry out these gruesome acts of hate.
There is a scene in the movie where a mother is teaching her kids about "science" and how it can't be trusted because everything they need to know is in the Bible. It made me sick and is the reason my secular homeschooling friends have to be careful who they tell about what they do all day.
There is another sweet little boy who goes to this Camp full of questions about faith and God and how it all fits together and he is berated into repenting and believing. They crush his wonderful, curious spirit by the end of the movie and he is a chanting automaton like the rest of the kids there. Chilling.
Oh and scary psycho pastor lady? Harry Potter is a WIZARD, not a warlock. There is a difference, bitch.
