Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Ryan M — 09 Aug 2010
This movie was pretty interesting and scary. Itâ??s disgusting to see how the kids in the camp are brainwashed and how ignorant the pastor is. More importantly, though, it shows how greatly some families let their obsession with religion affect their lifestyles.
The one kid, Levi, was being taught false science out of a creationist textbook by his mother which was laughable and saddening at the same time. Itâ??s disappointing that the parents in this movie donâ??t realize theyâ??re ruining their kidsâ?? lives and preventing them from being normal.
I felt sorry for the one kid who was having trouble believing in everything that was being shoved down his throat. I hope he managed to see his way out of that ludicrous denomination. It was nice that the radio broadcaster (I think he was from Air America) served as a sort of voice of reason throughout the film.
Some people have said his commentary shows bias in the directing. I donâ??t really understand how thatâ??s the case, since the documentary lets the crazy pastor espouse her nonsense for every other part of the movie.
This movie is a pretty good watch if youâ??re looking to get pissed off or have your eyes opened to true religious stupidity and indoctrination.
