Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Rick A — 26 Dec 2010
Jesus Camp's purpose seems to be to make the viewer angry, regardless of your beliefs. If you're a Christian, you're angry at the one-sidedness of the film, focusing on a pentecostal cult-like church with extreme beliefs and ignorant church-leaders (adults).
If you're a non-Christian, you're angry at the adults who brain-wash the children to the point of emotional terrorism. If you have compassion, religious or not, you're angry at the filmmakers exploitation of these helpless children to score obvious anti-religion points with it's viewers.
Jesus Camp is well edited, but takes a sophmoric approach to bashing religion by focusing it's efforts on the obvious exception to the rule. In doing so, one comes away feeling sorry for the victimized children, and ironically skeptical of independent film-makers.
