Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by Joe D — 01 Sep 2011
Unbelievable doc about Evangelical Christians who home school their children, Tim Tebow weird, and send their kids to a camp called "Kids on Fire" where they ae brainwashed into believing tat Jesus is all there is in life At one point the camp leader, Becky Fischer, claims that anyone who watches Harry Potter is evil because Potter is a warlock. A cardboard cutout of George W Bush is put on stage and the children are told to pray to him.
Odd how Fischer proclaims that the media and govenment are brainwashing children when she herself does the same. She rags against Capitalism when she attempts to hawk her wares on following Jesus and conditions children to believe in nothing but Jesus and be part of God's army.
One kid is home schooled by his mom and she teaches him that Global Warming is nothing but a hoax propogated by the government to instill fear in people. It's sad to realize that roughly 30% of the U.S. are Evangelical Christians because they are truly out of their mind and absolutely destroying their childrens future. Even a devout Christian radio personality disagrees with Fischers tactics in the film and he's not exactly righ in the head.
This is a creepy, but well made dosumentary about the insanity that is Evangelicals. It's amusing to know that after the doc was shown that the "Kids on Fire" camp was closed.
