Review of Jesus Camp (2006) by David P — 06 Aug 2011
[If you are a Christian you might get a bit offended by what I have to say and for that I sincerely apologies, but I am sure that no one in their right mind will agree with the bullshit that happens in this documentary].
I have seen some very scary films (Halloween, Audition, The Exorcist ect...), but none of those films are scarier then reality and this film could top any list of 'scary films'. I have never been so angry with a film and scared at how our future generation will end up.
Jesus Camp is a documentary about a camp just outside North Dakota that kids go too to learn about God and practise their prophetic gifts; the camp is run by children pastor Becky Fischer. The film switches between the camp, Becky Fischer talking and these three kids named Levi, Rachael and Tory, whom attend the camp.
First off I would like to say that I don't believe in God; I don't want to say why because I really don't want to offend any people who are Christian [ask me if you want to know].
What makes this film scary though is what this Becky Fischer women is doing to these poor kids - she is practically brainwashing them into believing in God and praying on their young under developed minds and the sick parents too that make them go to this camp. I hate it when a parent just forces their opinions onto their kids and doesn't allow them to make up their own mind - that's bad parenting.
She even says that "Harry Potter is an enemy of God" and that "you don't make hero's out of Warlocks" plus "in the old testament Harry Potter would of been put to death!" and all the parents in the audience were nodding. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEM!!!
Top 5 reasons why Harry Potter is not an enemy of God.
1. He is a fictional character and therefore does not exist!
2. The magic is CGI and special effects, so it is not witchcraft.
3. Harry is a Wizard not a Warlock: "You're a wizard Harry" - Hagrid (HP1).
4. If Harry is soooo evil then I guess that makes Voldormort an angel, for wanting to kill an orphan boy whom parents he murdered.
5. If God really wanted Harry dead then he would have done it already.
The amount of hypocritical things this woman says is laughable and these kids need help; not one of them questions what they are being told and the three kids we follow through the film become brainwashed, deluded and simple-minded. Fischer says that she is teaching to be the "Army of God", well my question is why would God even need an Army? I thought he was peace-loving. If you want to teach kids about Christianity this is the wrong way to do it.
THESE PEOPLE ARE INSANE!!!!!
Overall; this film is very interesting, yet very frustraighting to watch - the opinions expressed in the film are to be honest very scary and devoting your whole life to God is very sad - Haven might not even be a happy place. Becky Fischer must also be the devil, because the devil gets you while you are young, the devil brainwashes you and the devil is really fat.
It's worth one viewing, but what happens in this is just sick.
P.S it is also worth noting that Jesus Camp was nominated for Best Documentary at the Oscars in 2006.
6.5/10.
BBFC rating: PG - For emotionally intense scenes and discussion of abortion.
