Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by Dan M — 29 Jun 2014
Seeing this as a film, rather than on stage, it feels more like a bio-pic with songs (like Walk the Line or Ray) rather than a musical. I like both genres of film, although I do prefer the full musical.
And after seeing this on stage, it's hard not to compare it to the original production. I know it is hard to match the original production whenever a film is made based on another source, but I was disappointed that my favorite scene from the play was cut from movie ("Oh What A Night" - I loved the French version in the play, then I loved it when it was shown after the song-writer's first sexual experience at a Christmas party.
The party and the sexual experience were still in the movie, and I was waiting for the song, but then it was just tagged on to the end of the film. I don't know why that would be. There was obviously still time for the song if it is just put on the end).
Of course, I am just nit-picking, because the movie is very enjoyable overall. I think it could have been done better, but it doesn't matter because this film is still very entertaining. And stars are very talented!
