Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by Amy D — 08 Jul 2014
For this Jersey Girl who grew up in the 70s & 80s, "Jersey Boys" was a joy. The music was as close to the original as it could probably get. I loved the back story and character development. I barely knew who Frankie Valli was and how the Four Seasons came to be. Learning about their tale seemed familiar and unique at the same time. A lover of musicals, I did long for more musical numbers, and thoroughly enjoyed the closing finale, which I could envision the curtain falling on the scene. It wasn't the perfect movie, I admit.
Some flaws I saw included the lead character. I just thought he could have had a stronger voice thought out, such as the pivotal scene where all of the c#_+ Tommy had done came to light. You want him to hit the bastard, Or at least scream at him louder. Maybe he didn't, I wasn't there. I thought the scenes with Frankie's daughter were disjointed. It really happened, I get it; but it could have been tied together stronger. And yes, Frankie's biggest hit, though painted big, could have been bigger. I think the sound engineering was off. And where was Grease?
Still, I really enjoyed "Jersey Boys." It's been a week and I cannot get it or the music out of my heard. I can see myself buying the BlueRay for my collection. It's a great summer flick. God bless Frankie and his Boys. Thank you for all of that fabulous music.
