Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by Stewart F — 14 Jul 2014
Not one of Eastwood's best, nor as good as the stage musical, it is, nonetheless, a reasonably competent adaptation of the latter. John Lloyd Young does a mean Frankie Valli, and the songs, of course, are classics. It gives a good understanding of their turbulent early history.
A couple of missteps, though. It is a bit creepy for Valli to sing "My Eyes Adored You, though I never laid a hand on you..." etc to his daughter! Also, although several characters do break the 4th wall, the cast ensemble sing-along at the end didn't feel right - until then, all the songs had been in performance context, relevant to the story.
