Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by James A — 18 Jul 2014
My only guess concerning the negative reviews is that people went into this movie expecting the Broadway show and received anything but. Mr. Eastwood forgot one of life's great truths - people don't like things that are different.
He crafted a solid drama where the story drives the film rather than the hits of the Four Season's carrying the entire production. I enjoy the musical and the film of Jersey Boys, but they are two totally different beasts.
I give Eastwood's adaptation a "B". Is it great? No. Does it encapsulate the feeling of the original musical? No. Does this make it a bad movie? No. Do I recommend this movie? Yes. It's a commendable effort all around and worth the price of admission.
