Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by Pj E — 05 Apr 2015
I guess the word "dull" is a good place to start with this review. Clint Eastwood has applied his washed out color pallet to probably the one film of his that actually should've been colorful.
Jersey Boys recounts the rise and fall of the Four Seasons. There should have been laughter, drama, and heartache. Instead, we get brooding, emotionless acting, and a dull two hours. On the acting front, the four leads can sing.
..and that's about it. They most certainly don't cut it as actors, and any scenes that are supposed to carry heavy emotional weight are left dry and lifeless. John Lloyd Young, in particular, is pretty bad and emotionless, especially towards end.
On the technical front, the washed out colors certainly do not do this film any favors, and only add to the dull lifelessness of it all. When the film finally drags itself to an end, after a hilariously cheesy scene in the vein of J.
Edgar's ending, the viewer is left with a bad taste and not much more.
