Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by Rhonda T — 02 Jul 2014
If you love the incredible unique voice of Frankie Valli, reproduced so well by Tony Award winning John Lloyd Young from the Broadway show - and the wonderful harmonies of the Four Seasons you'll love this well-made homage.
Despite the underbelly elements of bad blood that emerged in the story-line, this is very much a "feel good" musical that left me singing all the songs in the car on the way home. The "washed out" color used throughout the film gave it a sense of old - like re-living the dream via very rich recreations of 1960s New York and New Jersey.
Especially loved Vincent Piazza's performance as the quintessential "Joy-see" Italian boy - he is tailor-made for this role. Amazingly, apparently Eastwood recorded the singing live with additional live accompaniment - some ask considering the Four Seasons' hits, including Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry and Walk Like a Man, mainly used four vocalists, rather than solos, and highlighted Valli's falsetto, which is a particular stretch.
