Review of Jersey Boys (2014) by Alvin Y — 14 Sep 2014
As a movie, it shows you how these 4 men formed a group and sing on stage with some one-hit wonders. As a fan of the Four Seasons or a music lover in general, you might consider yourself singing along with the songs sang here. That leaves us to a poorly directed musical biopic that as well is unconvincing and uninspiring movie. Clint Eastwood had made some great movies and some bad movies in his 50+ years in Hollywood, I think his latest is a bit mess at times, not a great movie but somehow the music numbers make it a rise. Eastwood instead cast unfamiliar actors to play here probably are famous somewhere other than the Jersey Boys stage musical. I wished I would have go deeper and learned more about some of the subplots here such as the Christopher Walken character as a gangster, Frankie Valli's inspiration in singing and his voice, a little bit about the other 3 guys on this group, Frankie's daughter dealing with a lot of problems so devastating and yet it doesn't get emotional or painful it just felt nothing, and of course, does everybody in this world knew them or loved them I wished I get to see their legacy.
So, that leaves us to me saying that this is a very decent movie from the great Eastwood. He should have made some other story not like this one, a musical, not because he has a little taste to it, but he has to feel more of the music. Now I'm gonna check out the Broadway musical now in Youtube if there is!
