Review of Jerry Maguire (1996) by Daniela B — 17 Jun 2010
Everyone says that "Jerry Maguire" was one of the big movies from the late 90's. Maybe what I wanted to say was, I heard this film was a 90's classic, but for some reason, I had never seen it before. I just did...and I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise...but I couldn't help but like this movie.
So basically Cruise is this sport agent who rights a memo that says he wants fewer clients, he get's fired, and the only person who goes with him on the road is Renee Zellweger. So him and her develop a relationship with each other, and that's basically the movie, coinciding with the agent's relationship with Cuba Gooding Jr., a rising sports star, who has problems. It's a pretty intriguing plot, completely original, and that's what I like to see.
I just liked the whole atmosphere of this movie. Everything just felt right to me, and I don't know why. I find Tom Cruise to be so completely obnoxious in most of his films, but...this movie was still good. There was just something about it.
Cruise was kind of annoying, but everyone else was all right. There were no fantastic performances here...just people getting the job done. Nothing horrible. Jonathan Lipnicki was really cute....come on...you have to admit it...what is he like 7 in this movie? He was adorable.
It was basically a movie about moving down in the world and trying to make a comeback, while trying to maintain a relationship, while falling in love. It sounds stupid on the surface, but once you dig deep, it's pretty good.
"Jerry Maguire" was a good flick. I enjoyed myself a lot, and I think everyone did a good job with it. It might have been ridiculously corny, and Tom Cruise might have been a little bit of a brat, but I can't help but like it. Good movie.
