Review of Jerry Maguire (1996) by Kimberley F — 07 Aug 2011
Featuring one of Tom Cruise's most memorable performances, Jerry Maguire is a slick romantic comedy from director Cameron Crowe, which deserves to be remembered for its fine performances and romantic one-liners ('You had me at hello', anybody?).
Featuring a very fresh-faced Renee Zellweger in her breakthrough role, and an Oscar-winning Cuba Gooding Jr., Crowe brings the best of the sports movie genre (the great highs and lows, a heavy moral) and seamlessly blends them with the best that romantic comedies can offer (warm-hearted dialogue and a heroine we can root for).
The results are better than anyone could have predicted, making Jerry Maguire a sparkling concoction of tender emotion and solid entertainment.
