Review of Jeremiah Johnson (1972) by Mrugen M — 29 Jul 2012
Watched this again today for the umpteenth time. Redford was terrific as the enigmatic mountain man who has fled war and civilization to live a solitary, hard life of unknown purpose high in the mountains of the Colorado Territory in the 1830s.
We watch Redford grow from an unseasoned greenhorn likely to perish at any moment, to a hearty mountain man, to a living legend. This movie has aged beautifully and is still wonderful today. One can always rely on Redford (can anyone even name a single BAD RR movie?), and the vistas are spectacular, although the cameras were not in the league of those today.
Wolves, assorted friendly and not-so-friendly indian tribes, and other obstacles make this a great story, and leave one wanting MORE! I am always sad at the way this ends in an unsettled, indeterminate fashion, but it works, and really had to end this way.
HIGHLY recommended.
