Review of Jennifer's Body (2009) by Ken B — 13 Jul 2011
A horror setting for a comedy. Funny and entertaining but rarely funny enough to make you laugh. Doesn't measure up to Drag me to Hell. I like the modernization of a succubus (we're supersaturated with vampires and nearly as inundated with werewolves) but Fox was only a sucky-bus in the loosest (like her snatch) sense. Aren't Succubisexuals supposed to visit you in your sleep, have bat wings, and take your soul to hell?
What I liked.
1) In medias res story structure from a mental asylum (it never got as funny as when she kicked the orderly again).
2) The lead's best-friend's a monster. I don't watch many horror movies so correct me if I'm wrong but this relationship seemed original to me.
3) Nerdy girl dates Justin Bieber. I like to see the dorky chick's in a serious relationship. Usually movies have false-to-life stereotype of a geeky gal being unable to land a man.
Probably the movie's biggest weakness was over-reliance on sex appeal. Megan Fox's tits are still there if she's doing a funny scene.
