Review of Jennifer's Body (2009) by Danielle U — 24 Jul 2012
Well, Diablo Cody, this was certainly not your finest work. Poorly written with HORRIBLE dialogue, which I was surprised to witness after her excellent writing for Juno, but alas this film was caught between trying to be both serious and funny (at least that is what I am assuming with lines like "Do you have a tampon?.
..Oh cause you look like your pluggin'." Really, can that be taken as anything but as an attempt at humor?) That might work with some horror movies, but with this one, that combination just left the film's overall theme feel confusing and uncertain.
Also most of the acting was horribly bland, maybe the actors thought "what does it matter? This film isn't any good, so why even try?" at least that seems to be the case based on the effort they put into their parts.
Oh, and *SEMI-SPOILER*, can someone tell me the reason the two main girl characters had a make-out scene in the middle of the movie?? That scene really made no sense to me, it didn't fit with the flow of the storyline and it didn't serve a purpose.
And besides that, if someone suspected/knew their friend was killing people, would they really feel the need to make out with them and then pull away and tell them they had to stop because their friend was killing people??? The only bright spots in this crapfest of a film were two of its male characters that I found I actually came to care about throughout the story, those parts were played by Johnny Simmons and Kyle Gallner.
Oh and another *SPOILER*, of course both those guys end up dead...good job, kill off the few people who actually made the movie half-way bearable to watch. I'm sure you can tell by now that I don't recommend this film, it was complete and utter crap!!! I say, just walk away and don't look back, you'll be better off.
