Review of Jem and the Holograms (2015) by Caen V — 23 Oct 2015
I wanted to love this movie because unlike everybody I loved the trailers and the soundtrack is awesome but the story is kind of pathetic and let's face it, unrealistic. I will give it credit for the acting because you have great talent here from Aubrey Peeples (who gives it her all with her first leading role), but you have great actors such as Stefanie Scott, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis (who all didn't have a lot to do) and you barely get to know the foster sisters played by Haley Kioko and Aurora Pennireu (?) and their story.
Another great thing about the film is its music. The soundtrack is very empowering and positive for its target audience. They also cram this thing about synergy the robot that Jerrica's father leaves behind which feels like this movie went from Jem and the Holograms to Jem the Holograms and Earth to a Echo that seemed wasted at first but understanding why it was put in the film for a good message.
Otherwise it's an OK film, but not as bad as critics are saying it is.
