Review of Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2012) by Nicholas H — 28 Mar 2013
Films by the Duplass brothers are an acquired taste and they certainly aren't mainstream or for everybody. Mostly they live and die by either the charm of their leads or the lengths to which the no-name leads will go. The unpolished nature of the Duplass' films is going to push away some viewers and I accept this. However, those who dislike their films need to accept that others can objectively like them.
That all said, I liked the film in spite of its many imperfections. That's probably what I enjoyed most about it, and what most Duplass films do best: show all of humanity's imperfections in the raw. Powerful, painful, and too realistic at times. Stay low-budget, Mark and Jay. You are miners of human truth and all of the haunting beauty contained within.
