Review of Jeepers Creepers (2001) by Joe A — 18 Oct 2012
Wasn't too big on this when I first saw it but, subsequent viewings have caused it to grow on me quite a bit. Jeepers Creepers is a decent saturday night horror best enjoyed with a brew or two. There are some good scares and some nice FX work and the film moves at a brisk pace.
Director Silva has an understanding of the visual style a film like this needs and doesn't waste time as the story begins right away and never slows down. A very cool creature is always a plus in a film like this and the two likeable leads are sympathetic in their plight and we care if it catches up to them.
But, there some lapses in logic, and the psychic character brings things down a bit too . Her part is badly written exposition and the actress playing her isn't winning any awards either. Veteran actress Eileen Brennan appears in a small role as an ill-fated cat lady and she would have been far more effective in the role of the psychic, Jezelle.
A bloody police station attack and a truely unsettling climax helps regain some of its effectiveness and leave one fairly spooked and entertained by the time the credits finally roll. A fun Halloween treat or a good part of a weekend spook-fest with friends.
