Review of Jean de Florette (1986) by Marysol K — 11 Jul 2007
It was a pleasure to watch a French film that was both mainstream and accessible ? as opposed to the usual pretentious French nonsense. The film is well shot, has excellent and subtle performances from the entire cast and has a brilliant, if by now over-familiar, score (Stella Artois anyone?).
The only negative thing I would say about the film is that it unexpectedly springs a ?to be continued? on it?s audience, which made me feel a little cheated. Overall a very good film that makes you crave a holiday in the south of France (and a Stella).
