Review of Jean de Florette (1986) by Sarah . — 20 Apr 2011
This film was pretty good. A little slow at times, but not horribly so. I really got attached to the characters, loved the good guys, hated the bad guys. The actress who played Manon (the little girl) is so beautiful! Gerard Depardieu was wonderful and I completely loved his character. Daniel Auteuil was funny and good at playing his role. Yves Montand genuinely made me hate his character - so I guess, acting wise, thats a good thing. The story was interesting and yet pretty straight-forward. What an ending though! Not wanting to spoil anything, lets just say that its not your typical cookie-cutter ending, which for some is good but for others not so much. I can appreciate the way it ended simply for the fact that it wasnt the norm.
Looking forward to seeing the sequel.
What did this movie teach me? I never thought I'd say this, but Gerard Depardieu was actually once very, very handsome.
