Review of JCVD (2008) by Krizzy T — 05 Jun 2009
Doesn't know what it wants to be. Ends up being a bog-standard heist/hostage drama piece, with the deconstruction of Van Damme kind of tacked on. The washed out film stock was annoying in this and seemed inappropriate.
That critics are calling it Jean Claude's greatest film ever is abhorrent - Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Universal Soldier immediately leap to mind as better movies. Sure they're not arthouse, but they're far more fun.
The drama and comedy moments are occasionally good, but this was a pretty big disappointment.
