Review of JCVD (2008) by Dave G — 17 Sep 2009
This film is shot beautifully - somewhere between Cuaron and Gondry. It's evident that Van Damme is trying to be taken seriously and the multiple angle shooting and plot work well...until "the monologue".
Near the end, everything pauses and Van Damme speaks directly to the audience about how hard it's been or something, thereby killing what tension had built up. Next to Hard Target it's probably his best film, but that isn't saying a lot.
