Review of JCVD (2008) by Tom M — 24 Feb 2010
Though certainly no where near as good as The Wrestler, I agree with the notion that this film (like that one) very much changes the perception and image of its star. The plot itself isn't much of anything, but watching Van Damme deliver what must have been an incredibly cathartic woe-is-my-pathetic-life performance is surprisingly absorbing.
And while I don't come away from this feeling it was some great movie, I do definitely come hoping to see Van Damme land some dramatic roles in legitimate flicks, something I'd have never felt before.
