Review of JCVD (2008) by Pravin P — 08 Apr 2010
I actually haven't seen many Van Damme movies, and am not a fan of his.. Maybe was when I was younger.. [:-?].. anyways.. This might be the first movie in which he plays a role which asks for more thespian qualities than it'd have ever been from him.. Well, what is the max you can do in hard core action movies, rite? [:D].. Thing is, he's pulled it off very well.. He looks so much really like himself.. [;)].
This, surprisingly was a good movie.. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the story progress.. It's something like an alternate world, in which Jean Claude Van Damme is an action star who works in all crappy movies and is loosing his fight for the custody of his daughter, and is nearly bankrupt.. he goes into a post-office to get some cash, and unwittingly gets entangled in a hostage situation.. The kidnappers try to make it look like Van Damme's the guy holding everyone else hostage..
The director (some Mechri) has done a really good job in creating a different kind of movie.. The dark effects creates an almost noir like feeling.. And he's incorporated some comedy in b/w too, which goes fairly well.. [:)]..
Recommended.. Will need to get hold of the subtitles though.. Most of the dialogues are not English.. Some Japanese/Chinese in b/w and I think there's mostly French or something like that..
