Review of JCVD (2008) by Jason C — 08 May 2010
Killing Zoe style with Dog Day Afternoon ethos? Is there a deeper meaning at work in JCVD?
Could it possibly be an underhanded slap at the ethics of film critics, sucked in deliberately with some carefully constructed melodramatic moments and a memorable soliloquy, in order to mock them for how easily manipulated the ploy will expose them as?
Is it a straight value commentary on celebrity culture and the public hunger for screen violence?
Perhaps it's a more pedantic attempt by JCVD to reverse his downward trending career and prove his value beyond all other works in his life?
For making me ask these questions, I will for the very first time in my life say I enjoyed a film with Jean Claude Van Damme.
To say any more may ruin the spirit of surprise I felt, as it wouldn't work at all if one brings a sense of anticipation.
