Review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) by Freddy Krueger H — 10 May 2014

Jay (Mewes): What are you trying to say? Just say it already.

Silent Bob (Smith): [screams] THE SIGN on the back of the car said "Critters of HOLLYWOOD", YOU DUMB FUCK!

Jay (Mewes): Say it, don't spray it.

There is just that certain je ne sais quoi about Kevin Smith's film. Granted he's not the pioneer of stoner-films (Cheech and Chung were at it long before he attempted it) but Smith has the ability to write characters who are absolutely endearing, who by all societal standards shouldn't be. Case in point: Jay and Silent Bob. I don't know what it is about them but I find the pair absolutely hilarious; while Jay may be a bit rough around the edges, Silent Bob is totally adorable to me. This film really has no purpose but to have its audience sit back and watch the misadventures of Jay and Silent Bob- the plot was implausibly silly and the conclusion absolutely ridiculous (save for the "Jungle Love" concert in the end, who would have thought Kevin Smith was light on his feet?) but it was pretty entertaining if you're already a fan of Smith's work; if not, then this film maybe a bit difficult for any uninitiated movie-goer to swallow because as with any of Smith's other flicks, it has the token sophomoric and sometimes crude, humor; peppered with a lot colorful language and the standard dick/pussy jokes. So, if you don't enjoy films like that, this is NOT the movie for you and I sincerely doubt you would even appreciate brilliance of Smith's brand of humor or this film. So just move along.....
