Review of Jaws: The Revenge (1987) by Kenneth B — 31 Oct 2011

I had forgotten just how bad this film is. The whole revenge angle is just so preposterous and I happened to watch all four Jaws films in the same day so oh how I grinned during the scene in Jaws 2 with the dead killer whale.

Chief Brody asks the marine biologist whether there could be a link between the shark in the first film and this new shark. The MB replies âSharks donâ(TM)t take things personally, Mr. Brody.â? It beggars belief then that for the fourth instalment they would make this the central premise.

Before I completely disregard this effort I'll say that I am a believer in the suspension of disbelief theory however it requires something in return. If you're going to give me a nonsense film then at least make it fun and give me a thrill ride.

Jaws: The Revenge is tedious and although it's mercifully short the ending is so laughable. How they got a 'happy' ending out of that is ludicrous and anyone who has seen it will know what I mean, Van Peebles.

The shooting of the action sequences are dreafully handled too, it's basically just fast cutting between a shot of teeth and splashing red water. To be scared by something we have to at least see something not just frantic camera movements.
