Review of Jaws: The Revenge (1987) by Jacob H — 31 Aug 2016
So where to start?! Okay, it can well argued that the original Jaws is a masterpiece, I believe it's good. But not a masterpiece, but this is a whole another of awful. Taking the story back to the Brody Family could have worked, if the best character wasn't dead and every other member of his family was just plain unlikable. Nothing about any of these people is interesting or worthwhile.
But that's not the biggest problem here, oh no. The absolute worst thing about this movie is the plot. Why is the shark coming after them, revenge you might say, it's in the title. How? How does this shark know to go after them? Is it the same shark surviving, is it a relative, and is it a vengeful zombie shark?! Nothing about the premise makes sense. Jaws is a movie that just doesn't lend itself to sequels. One was unnecessary, but two more after that?
Hey Hollywood, sometimes it's okay to let films stand by themselves. Not everything needs to be a 'cinematic universe'. Lord knows not something like this, especially this.
