Review of Jaws 3-D (1983) by Archibald T — 22 Mar 2011
The early 80's were booming with 3-D films. It had been around for quite awhile. Most notably and probably the most memorable films from that decade were Friday the 13th Part 3, Amityville 3-D and this film, Jaws 3-D.
Mike Brody works at Seaworld with his girlfriend Katherine. His brother Sean comes in for a visit. There's a small subplot of Mike going to Venezuela and how it might affect his relationship with Katherine, but it's only there to fill in the gap of time and to waste a tiny bit of yours.
Another shark enters the lives of the Brody brothers and it wreaks havoc on Seaworld in the process. When they first think they caught the shark, they keep in captivity until it's put on display only to die in front of those looking at it. It's mother is pissed off and wants to destroy Seaworld. A British hunter and his Aussie friend help in capturing or killing the mother only for it to back fire on the British fellow who doesn't go down well in the mother shark's mouth.
Lots of yadda, yadda, with Mike and Kathrine trying to help those trapped inside an underwater enclosure by sealing off a leak. The shark gets loose and the couple make it back to the control room for a finale of shattering proportions.
The 3-D in 2-D is very laughable. I still wouldn't mind seeing it in it's full 3-D presentation, but I find that unlikely unless one day I get lucky. The script is bad, very bad, the direction is just as bad. Bad, bad, bad, but at least bad enough that it's mildly entertaining to a point.
Overall, it beats Jaws: The Revenge at least.
