Review of Jaws 2 (1978) by Stephen Z — 09 Jul 2015
I know it goes without saying, but Steven Spielberg has an undeniable charm that he brings to his films, and its absence is certainly noticeable in this sequel to his classic, "Jaws". Though "Jaws 2" is essentially the same film, it has some problems that the first one didn't. The narrative is not as straight-forward as the first. Part of this is due to the film's focus on the teenage characters, who are less interesting than Roy Scheider's character. The third act is also not as climactic as the first film's. In fact, it's pretty anticlimactic.
Other than that, "Jaws 2" is basically the same movie. It does the same things, which is fine and entertaining, but it loses points for unoriginality. After all, you can only have so many suspenseful shark attacks before it gets old.
