Review of Jaws 2 (1978) by Alex A — 02 Sep 2010
For starters, no, Jaws 2 comes nowhere near the first film, which remains a cinematic masterpiece. The original Jaws is a film that I (and many teachers) use in class to demonstrate editing techniques.
It also had a brilliantly witty script, which is also lacking from this followup. That being said, Jaws 2 is still a fun film that follows the return of a giant, man-eating, great white shark to Amity Island where Chief Brody remains on the lookout for shark attacks.
Eventually, his own sons become trapped in a situation where they are potential shark snacks and Brody must respond even if he has been stripped of his position as town sheriff. Stupid? Yes. Unnecessary? yes.
Entertaining...? Hell yes. Not a good film by any stretch of the term but a fun one anyway.
