Sure it's inferior to Jaws. There are some redeeming qualities to this film. It's as ambitious as the first film. More underwater sequences and I prefer the score for this movie more than the original.
This is one of John Williams' best scores. Overall a worthy successor but does not have the character development or flair of the Speilberg's masterpiece.
